Definition of Biography Biography text is a detailed description or account of a person’s life and written by someone else, it is nonfiction text. Function of Biography 1. To know a person’s story about his/her life outside of any accomplishments this person may be known for. 2. To give much information easily and educate the readers. Characteristics of Biography - Biography is not written by subject and always written in the third person. - Based on research. - Describes the person’s surroundings (where, when and how the person lived). - Use vivid language to narrate events. Generic Structure of Biography 1. Orientation (Introduction) It is the opening paragraph, gives the readers the background information of the person. 2. She became famous in the 1990’s with the pop group “The Spice Girl”and was known as Posh Spice. In 1999, she married the Manchester United and England footballer, David Beckham. They have four children, three sons and a daughter. After The Spice Girl split up, she pursued a solo singer career, but also started her own fashion range called dVb Style. Descriptive Text Part 1-3.

Definition of Descriptive Text. Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing. In a broad sense, description, as explained by Kane (2000: 352), is defined like in the following sentence: Description is about sensory experience—how something looks, sounds, tastes. Mostly it is about visual experience, but description also deals with other kinds of perception. Thus, if we conclude it from Kane’s explanation above, the descriptive text is meaningful text that describes the experience related to the senses, such as what shape, sound, taste is. Most descriptive text is about visual experience, but in fact the experience other than the sense of sight, we can also use it to make descriptive text. A quick and easy cheese cake recipe Yield: 6 servings Preperation time: 5 minutes Cook time: 40 minutes Total time: 45 minutes Ingredients: 16 ounces cream cheese, 2 packages, softened ½ cup sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla 2 large eggs 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips 1 prepared Graham cracker crust Directions: Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla at medium speed until well-blended. Definition There are three definition about procedure text: (1) Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction/operation manuals e.g. how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier, the fax. (2) Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity e.g. recipes, rules for games, science experiments, road safety rules. (3) Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g how to live happily, how to succeed. B.
